Darkwing Duck Is Coming Back Without Jim Cummings. He Says He Recorded the Pilot

Disney has ordered a new Darkwing Duck series for Disney+ with Mark Hamill in the title role. Jim Cummings, who originated the voice in 1991 and says he recorded a test pilot for the revival, is not in the cast. For working voice actors, the week is a short lesson in what a signature role actually gets you.

The announcement landed on 22 September. Disney is reviving the caped crime fighter for Disney+ with a new cast, a new creative team and a premise built around the gap itself: Drake Mallard has spent 35 years stranded in a world that never heard of him, until a teenager called Duckie drags him back into the cape. Negaduck and Megavolt are waiting.

Mark Hamill voices Drake Mallard. Seth Rogen, who is also a producer on the show through Point Grey Pictures, voices Launchpad McQuack. Lizzy Caplan plays Gosalyn Mallard, and Lilimar plays Duckie. The rest of the announced cast runs Dan Stevens, Tiffany Shepis, Kathryn Newton, Teo Briones, Tyler Dean Flores, Katie Rich and Nat Faxon. Sean Tretta and Borja Peña Gorostegui are the executive producers. Tad Stones, who created the original, is consulting.
