Full Clearing Another World’s English Dub Starts Today. Its Goddess Gets One Believer a Decade, and Lacey Deline Is Her Voice

Noah is a goddess with no followers, and she’s only allowed to recruit one every ten years. Starting today, she does her recruiting in English. Crunchyroll’s dub of Full Clearing Another World under a Goddess with Zero Believers begins streaming on Sunday, with Corey Wilder as the gamer Makoto and Lacey Deline as Noah, the goddess who signs him up.

Crunchyroll named the English cast this weekend, and Anime News Network carried the full list on Sunday. Monica Rial plays Aya Sasaki, Makoto’s old gaming friend, and Bryn Apprill is Sophia, the cold first princess of the water kingdom of Roses. Aiden Call voices Fujiyan, the classmate who turns his skill into a trading company, and Eduardo Vildasol plays Sakurai, the “Hero of Light” of the class.

Dani Chambers directs the English voices at Crunchyroll, with Molly Searcy as assistant voice director. James Cheek wrote the adaptation under supervisor Macy Anne Johnson, Jose Sandoval engineered and William Dewell mixed. Crunchyroll’s announcement didn’t include comments from the English cast, so for now the voices will have to speak for themselves.

The weakest mage in the class

The setup will be familiar to anyone who’s watched an isekai, and it plays with that on purpose. Makoto Takatsuki is a high schooler and a born gamer. On the way home from a school training camp, an accident sends him and his whole class into another world. Everyone else wakes up with a powerful cheat ability. Makoto gets weak stats and a plain skill, and is left to survive as the weakest kind of “apprentice mage,” according to the official synopsis.

Then Noah turns up. The official character notes say she tried to start a “Third Divine War” 15 million years ago, failed, and was sealed in a temple at the bottom of the sea. She recruits him hard, he becomes her first believer, and the show’s tagline promises the hardest difficulty setting there is. Noah, the site adds, seems to have a secret.

In Japanese, Makoto is voiced by Sohei Horikane, a 1997-born actor from Kochi. Noah belongs to Ikumi Hasegawa, whom anime fans know as Lena in 86 and Kita in Bocchi the Rock!, according to Animate Times. Riki Fukushima directs at studio HORNETS, and Hiroto Morishita is the sound director. The show premiered on BS Asahi on October 11 and also airs on Tokyo MX and AT-X.

From web novel to anime

The story began as a web novel on the Shosetsuka ni Naro site, won the gold prize at the 5th Overlap Web Novel Awards, and has been published by Overlap Bunko since March 2019. Animate Times reports the series has passed 500,000 copies. The 14th novel came out on September 20.

Its author, Isle Osaki, didn’t quite believe the news. “Zero Believers is getting an anime! When I heard, I thought it was a dream,” Osaki wrote on the anime’s official site, thanking the editors, the character designer Tam-U and the manga artist Hakuto Shiroi, and finally the readers “who’ve cheered this series on.”

Fans of the books will be listening for one voice in particular. Lucy, the elf mage with enormous magic power and no control over it, becomes Makoto’s first party member in episode 3. She’s voiced in Japanese by Shina Shuto. Her English voice wasn’t in Sunday’s list.

A song for a goddess you only meet in dreams

The music has a story of its own. The ending theme, “Fall in Dream,” is by Suupeas, a duo that calls itself a nap-themed girls’ music unit, and it’s their first anime theme song. “We’d been working hard dreaming of an anime tie-in, so we’re truly happy, more than words can say,” the duo said in a comment on the official site. The song, they explained, “is about the feelings of Noah, who can only meet Makoto in his dreams.”

The opening, “Mirai no Ashiato,” is sung by 310. “What do we look at, what do we choose, how do we live? Even on days when we’re worried or lost, I want to keep moving forward together,” the singer said. “I put a lot of those feelings into it.”

A busy weekend in the dub booth

Full Clearing isn’t Crunchyroll’s only new dub this weekend. On Friday it began the English dubs of The Prince of Tennis II U-17 World Cup: Final Member Selection Match and the second season of The Iceblade Sorcerer Shall Rule the World.

The tennis dub is a small lesson in how many hats one person can wear. Ry McKeand voices the lead, Ryoma Echizen, and also directs the English voices and supervises the adaptation at Sound Cadence Studios. Kieran Flitton writes the adaptation and plays Yanagi. Flitton had a busy Friday: he’s also Shinpei in Firefly Wedding, whose English dub began a day earlier. Richard Barcenas plays two players, Adrian and Oni.

A green tennis scoreboard shows the busiest people on the English dub of The Prince of Tennis II U-17 World Cup: Final Member Selection Match: Ry McKeand with three jobs as Ryoma, voice director and adaptation supervisor, Kieran Flitton as Yanagi and on adaptation, Richard Barcenas voicing Adrian and Oni, and Caitlyn Elizabeth as Kintaro plus additional voices, alongside 29 named roles, Sound Cadence Studios, and more of the cast including Christopher Wehkamp, Christopher Sabat, Austin Tindle, Ryan Colt Levy, Ian Sinclair and Robbie Daymond.

The rest of the tennis cast reads like a dub convention lineup. Christopher Wehkamp plays Atobe, Christopher Sabat is Byodoin, Ian Sinclair is Sanada, Robbie Daymond is Yukimura and Ryan Colt Levy is Kite. Wehkamp is having a double weekend too: he also plays Albert in The Iceblade Sorcerer Shall Rule the World II, where Kevin D. Thelwell voices Ray, Alexis Tipton is Amelia and Lee George directs.

Whether Noah gets more than one believer out of the English audience is up to Lacey Deline now. She’s got ten years.
