Hunter’s Moon Casts 48 Actors for More Than 100 Voices. In This Witch-Hunt Game, You Survive by Eavesdropping
Twin Swans has named the voice cast of Hunter’s Moon, a first-person folk-horror game for PlayStation 5: 48 actors playing more than 100 characters in a village that is hunting you. Players survive the night by hiding and listening at windows, which makes the voices the whole game.
The studio revealed the cast on 12 October, two weeks before launch. Hunter’s Moon casts the player as Lilith Thorne, a woman accused of witchcraft in a 17th-century English village, who has one night to escape the Witchfinder General. It is an unusual job for a voice cast, and a large one for an independent studio.
A village of 48 voices
Hannah Morley plays Lilith, the accused. Gregg Lowe is the Witchfinder General, and Anthony Howell and Joe Pitts, according to Dread Central, voice Anthony Talbot and John Purdy. Behind them sits an ensemble that runs from a Singing Mummer and a Pedlar Mummer to a parson and a string of neighbours.
The published cast list shows how the numbers work. In the lists we read, most actors have one named role followed by “additional” parts, which is how 48 people cover more than 100 characters. A few, such as Sophie McShera as Maggie Kindreth and Isobel Blacke, are credited with two named roles. In a game built around small overheard scenes, that doubling puts a lot of range on each performer.

Listening at windows
Hunter’s Moon is not a shooter or a chase. In the studio’s announcement on the PlayStation Blog, written by director Alicia Contestabile, players “evade capture by the witch hunters, and eavesdrop on a characterful cast of regular folk worn down by war and misfortune.” Eavesdropping at a window may bring “warning words, sage counsel, sacred items, or perchance a folk song,” the post says, and the game is “told through the voices of over 100 fully voice-acted characters.”

That sets a different bar for voice work. The player is not being spoken to, but overhearing, so every neighbour’s line has to sound like a real conversation that was already going on before Lilith arrived at the glass.

Contestabile describes the approach as theatre. In the cast announcement she said: “I wanted to create an interactive theatre, set in this era of magical thinking, and immerse the player in the perspective of an accused woman. Exploring how these beliefs could drive a community to enact such cruelty, the player can experience what it might feel like to face these accusations, from family, friends, and neighbours, and know that your life is at risk.”

A real history behind the Witchfinder General
The game borrows from the English witch hunts of the 1640s. The PlayStation Blog post explains that Matthew Hopkins styled himself “the Witchfinder General” and, with his colleague John Stearne, “sent more to the gallows for witchcraft than all other English witch hunters before them.” Contestabile began writing a screenplay on that history in 2019, while working as a producer at Crows Crows Crows. She is also credited as a producer of The Stanley Parable: Ultra Deluxe.
Twin Swans, the studio she founded, brings together artists and developers whose credits include The Stanley Parable: Ultra Deluxe, The Dark Pictures Anthology: Little Hope, The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt and Signalis. The score is by the Polish composer Resina.

The game’s question is stated plainly in the studio’s own words: “what if the most terrifying thing in our world is not monsters or magic, but other people?”
Who the cast are
The press release gives credits for four performers. Hannah Morley’s credits include Apartment 7A. Gregg Lowe has worked on Crimson Desert, Final Fantasy Tactics: The Ivalice Chronicles and the TV series Grantchester. Anthony Howell has credits in 007 First Light, Silent Hill: Townfall and the TV series Foyle’s War. Joe Pitts has credits in Lies of P and Dragon Quest VII Reimagined.

That blend of game and television credits is a reminder that a game with this much dialogue draws on both worlds.
What we could not confirm
None of the outlets we read quotes the actors themselves about their roles, so this story rests on the studio’s announcements. The cast lists printed by different outlets vary slightly in length, so we have used the studio’s figure of 48 actors. The release date also differs by region: the studio’s own post gives 25 October for North America and 26 October elsewhere. We have not played the game, and cannot say how the performances land. If any of the cast speak about it, Voice Over Herald will report it.
