Hachiware Sings in English, and the Voice Is Suzie Yeung. Chiikawa’s First English Dub Still Hasn’t Named Chiikawa or Usagi
Chiikawa’s first official English dub has been going out one episode a week on YouTube since 1 October, without a published cast list. Episode 11, in which Hachiware sings a song for Chiikawa, finally put a name to one of the voices: Hachiware is Suzie Yeung, the English voice of Makima in Chainsaw Man and Yuffie in Final Fantasy VII Rebirth. The voices of Chiikawa and Usagi still haven’t been announced.
Final Weapon reported the casting on 30 October, after the dubbed Season 1 Episode 11 showed that Yeung is the English voice of Hachiware and sings the English version of the theme “Mumbling to Myself.” In Japanese the cat-like character is voiced by Makoto Tanaka.

“It is currently unknown who the English voices of Chiikawa and Usagi,” the site’s report says. In Japanese, Chiikawa is voiced by Haruka Aoki and Usagi by Ari Ozawa.
A dub that arrived without an announcement
The channel behind it is Chiikawa Official, the series’ international YouTube channel. Its English dub was announced through Chiikawa’s overseas Instagram account on 23 September, according to the Japanese games and culture site Denfaminico Gamer, which reported that episodes would start on 1 October and that a new one would follow every week.

The same report noted that Chiikawa already had official Korean and Chinese dubs, and that this is the first in English. Fans had been waiting for it. Denfaminico Gamer said comments under the theme song video, posted ahead of the launch, were full of overseas fans saying they couldn’t wait for 1 October, couldn’t believe it was coming so soon, and thanking the team.
Season 1 Episode 11 went up on 25 October. Its description is short: “Hachiware sings a song for Chiikawa.” On 29 October the channel followed it with a standalone acoustic version of the English theme, sung by Hachiware, with the line “Sing along with Hachiware!”
The translation choices are visible in the titles too. In Japanese the theme is called “Hitorigotsu,” Denfaminico Gamer notes, which means talking to yourself. The dubbed episode is titled “I Mutter To Myself,” while the English song is “Mumbling to Myself.” Small differences like that are the everyday work of a dub’s script adaptation, and singing a translated lyric to the original melody adds another layer for the performer.

Who is Suzie Yeung?
Yeung is a Boston-born voice actress who has worked in anime and games since 2018. Her best-known roles include Makima in the Chainsaw Man anime and film, Yuffie Kisaragi in Final Fantasy VII Remake and Rebirth, Eula in Genshin Impact, and Fuuka Yamagishi in Persona 3 Reload. Her English credits also include Lena in 86, Koito Nagase in Wonder Egg Priority and Kaban in Kemono Friends.
Her Wikipedia biography adds that she speaks Cantonese and Mandarin as well as English, and has done voice-over work in all three languages.
Hachiware is a very different job from Makima. The character is small and cat-like, and the episode that revealed Yeung is built around a song. Singing in character, in a register that has to stay cute without turning into a cartoon squeak, is a specialist skill.

Chiikawa and Usagi
No English voices announced. In Japanese they are Haruka Aoki and Ari Ozawa.
What a free YouTube dub means for the cast
The YouTube release is unusual. English anime dubs usually reach audiences through a paid streaming service, often with a cast announcement around the premiere. Here the episodes are free and full length, and so far the credits have come out through the episodes themselves.
Chiikawa’s English home has moved before. Sentai Filmworks licenses the series outside Asia. HIDIVE streamed it with English subtitles, but the series left the service in October 2025. Since August 2026 the free streaming service Amasian TV has carried 20 episodes with subtitles, Final Weapon notes.

Voice Over Herald couldn’t find any announcement of who’s directing the dub, which studio is recording it, or when the rest of the cast will be named. The series’ English website introduces the characters but doesn’t list English voice credits. So far, the casting has surfaced through the episodes themselves.
Chiikawa, in case you haven’t met
Chiikawa started as a social media manga by the illustrator Nagano and became one of Japan’s most popular characters. The anime, made by Doga Kobo, began on Fuji TV in April 2022, and a new series started in July 2026.

The series’ official English website sells it simply. “Chiikawa is finally here from Japan to fill your hearts with cuteness, friendship, and joy!” it says. In Japan, it adds, Chiikawa, Hachiware and Usagi “can be found everywhere from books to a TV series, in themed cafes, adorning trains,” and they have their own shop on Tokyo Station’s Character Street.
For English-speaking fans, the next few episodes will be worth watching closely. Every new one could reveal another voice.
