Phantom Busters’ Anime Keeps Two Voices From Its Voice Comic and Recasts Two. Natsuki Hanae Is the New Korekishi
Phantom Busters, the Jump SQ. manga about four Kamakura schoolboys who run a ghost-busting club, is getting a TV anime in 2027, and its main cast was announced on Tuesday. Nobuhiko Okamoto and Kōki Uchiyama return from the manga’s 2024 voice comic. The other two roles have new voices: Natsuki Hanae, the voice of Demon Slayer’s Tanjiro, is now Korekishi, and Ryōta Suzuki is Tamon.
The teaser visual, cast and staff went out together on October 27, in a press release from the production committee carried by Japanese outlets including Denfaminicogamer and Anime! Anime!. The series comes from Neoshoco’s manga, which runs in Shueisha’s Jump SQ. and has passed 1.4 million copies in print and digital across eight volumes.
Anime News Network’s report sums up the setup in one line: “Straight A student Eugene Korekishi doesn’t believe in ghosts…but his classmate Mogari Shishikuno is an exorcist who swallows them whole!”
The four voices of the club
Here’s who plays whom in the TV anime, with the role each actor is best known for, as listed in the press release.

- Mogari Shishikuno: Nobuhiko Okamoto (Rin Okumura in Blue Exorcist). Mogari has the power to eat spirits and has run away from a strict family home to enjoy an ordinary youth.
- Eugene Korekishi: Natsuki Hanae (Tanjiro Kamado in Demon Slayer). A top student with zero sense for the supernatural.
- Kaoru Kanzaki, known as Zaki: Kōki Uchiyama (Tomura Shigaraki in My Hero Academia). A manga otaku who can see ghosts.
- Kōtarō Tamon: Ryōta Suzuki (Morihito Otogi in Witch Watch). He can talk to ghosts but isn’t good with people.
All four sent comments with the announcement. Okamoto sounded like a man who’d been waiting for this. “FanBus is finally getting an anime!” he said, using the fans’ nickname for the series. “I wish I’d had guys like these around in my school days.”

Two voices stay from the voice comic, two change
This isn’t the first time these characters have spoken. In December 2024, to mark the fourth volume, Jump SQ. released a Phantom Busters voice comic, a manga video with full voice acting. The manga’s official X account listed that cast: Okamoto as Mogari, Ao Ichikawa as Korekishi, Uchiyama as Zaki and Toshiki Masuda as Tamon.

So the anime keeps half of that lineup. Okamoto and Uchiyama carry their characters over. Korekishi moves from Ichikawa to Hanae, and Tamon from Masuda to Suzuki. The press release doesn’t mention the voice comic and gives no reason for the two changes.
Hanae’s comment didn’t dwell on it. “I’m very happy to be able to take part,” he said. “I’m just really looking forward to that FanBus atmosphere, with laughs and tears. I’ll do my very best to get Korekishi’s appeal across!”
He also put his finger on what makes the role fun to voice. “He’s usually the straight man, but when it’s time to go along with the joke, he goes along with it,” Hanae said of Korekishi. “He’s flexible, and an essential part of FanBus. I also like the slightly sadistic look he shows now and then.”

How the cast plan to play them
The comments are short, but each actor talks about the voice he wants to find. Okamoto described Mogari as “bottomlessly cheerful, unbelievably straight,” and said he loves “the vibe and momentum” that come from that personality. “It’s a show that says, ‘Let’s mess around together, banish evil spirits and just enjoy life!’, so I want to enjoy it with plenty of energy,” he said. “Everybody watch it!”
Uchiyama, returning as Zaki, spoke most directly about the craft. “Since Kanzaki is a ‘manga otaku who can see ghosts’, I think the intensity of that character is appealing,” he said. “When voicing him, I of course want to value what makes him himself, and I plan to perform him while keeping his background in mind.”

Suzuki, new to the cast as Tamon, picked out the character’s gentleness. “His bottomless kindness: even if it’s an evil spirit, he can listen to the very end and stay by its side!” he said. Tamon tries to stop the others when they floor the accelerator, he added, “but before he knows it he’s running alongside them.” His promise for the role: to perform “at full youthful throttle.”
Who’s making it
The production team is a strong one for a ghost comedy. Chika Nagaoka directs; Nagaoka’s credits include the film Detective Conan: The Million-dollar Pentagram. Takahiro Kishida, the character designer on Haikyu!!, shares character design with Rina Iwamoto, and TOHO animation STUDIO, the studio behind The Apothecary Diaries, is animating it.

No month, network or English dub has been announced yet. The official site and X account (@phanbus_anime) are where the next news will land. Until then, the 2024 voice comic is still up on Jump SQ.’s YouTube channel, if you want to hear where two of these voices started.
