Final Fantasy VII Revelation’s English Cast Records Its Last Lines. Square Enix Filmed the Tears

Square Enix has posted a short film of the Final Fantasy VII Revelation English cast recording their last sessions for the remake trilogy, and it isn’t a dry-eyed affair. The same week, the cast took the stage at New York Comic Con to say goodbye to seven years of Cloud, Tifa, Aerith and Sephiroth.

The game doesn’t come out until April 8, 2027. For the people who voice it, though, the story is already over. On October 8, Final Fantasy VII’s official X account shared a 110-second video titled “Behind the Booth,” shot in the recording studio as the English cast wrapped the third and final game in the series that began with Final Fantasy VII Remake in 2020 and continued with Rebirth in 2024.

It opens with Cody Christian, the voice of Cloud Strife, in headphones and a dark shirt, inviting fans in. “I’m very excited to bring you in and invite you into a session of the making of Cloud Strife,” he says. Within a few seconds, Briana White, who plays Aerith Gainsborough, is dabbing her eyes with a tissue.

“This is going to be an emotional day for me”

White says it straight to camera: “This is going to be an emotional day for me.” She has a plan for getting through it, too. “I’m gonna need like ten more Rice Krispies Treats to get through this.”

Britt Baron, the voice of Tifa Lockhart, is in tears in her own booth. “I’m really so grateful,” she says. “This was like the role of a lifetime.” A moment later: “Seriously this is like the best thing ever to happen in my life.”

John Eric Bentley, who plays Barret Wallace, keeps it short. “Yeah this is weird,” he says, “it’s been a journey, right?”

Between the goodbyes, the cast slip in and out of character. Lines like “Wakey, wakey,” “Don’t care who this ‘queen’ is” and “Barret, this isn’t funny” give a peek at Revelation’s script without giving anything away. There’s also a moment of pure booth life: one actor stops to announce that “Doritos Cool Ranch is the best flavor.”

Square Enix’s post carries the video. It shows the English cast in their booths, laughing and crying through their last lines, and ends with Cody Christian waving goodbye.

800 hours of Cloud

At New York Comic Con, the cast went further. Boss Rush Network covered the panel, called “One Last Ride: A Conversation with the English Voice Cast of Final Fantasy VII Revelation.”

Christian told the crowd the end of the trilogy felt bittersweet. Over seven years, he said, he’d easily put more than 800 hours into the role. Because of that, he said, “there’s a certain level of attachment,” to Cloud and to the people he made the games with. Then he fought back tears as Baron described his performance as worthy of an Oscar.

“[There’s an] immense amount of gratitude,” Christian said. He called himself a newer voice actor next to people like Matt Mercer, who plays Vincent Valentine, but said he’d always felt sure he could give Cloud a genuine performance.

Baron said playing one character over so many years is rare, and that Tifa now feels like part of her. Asked what saying goodbye feels like, she told the crowd it was “very hard and emotional.” The cast felt like a family, she said. “There’s so much goofing off,” she said. “We felt like a family, [compared to] other projects [where you feel] like a guest.”

White remembered the last E3 show, where the trailer revealing Tifa was shown, and how nervous she was about how fans would take it. Seven years later, she said, it “is the most wild thing ever.”

A villain who doesn’t shout

Travis Willingham, the English Sephiroth, said the key to the character is the balance between menace and restraint. He called Sephiroth’s Japanese voice, Toshiyuki Morikawa, his “North Star” for the role, and finished with a line that got the room: “Nothing is more dangerous than a villain that doesn’t need to shout to be heard.”

Suzie Yeung said Wutai, which features in Revelation, is Yuffie’s home turf, so the character’s growth had to be just as big as the place. Paul Tinto talked about Cait Sith, whose cheerful mask slowly drops by the end of the trilogy. Mercer got laughs describing how Vincent’s stone face meets Yuffie’s chaos. J Michael Tatum, a fan since childhood and new to the party as Cid Highwind, said he listened to the other actors’ recordings to shape his delivery. Caleb Pierce, who voices Zack Fair, said he was surprised to get the call to come back, and that “this has been the greatest adventure.”

A standard set on stage

The loudest cheer, according to Boss Rush, came when Bentley talked about the three women on the panel, Baron, Yeung and White. He said he hoped the three of them set the new standard, with no more objectification. The entire crowd, the outlet reported, erupted.

Baron spoke several times during the panel about what the role had meant to her as a woman in voice acting. Both characters date back to the original game in 1997. Baron and White have now voiced them across all three games of the remake.

Four things to know

  1. Same voices, three games. The English leads of Remake, Rebirth and Revelation stayed with the trilogy to the end.
  2. Seven years. Cody Christian says he spent more than 800 hours on Cloud.
  3. Official goodbye. Square Enix filmed the cast’s final sessions and posted the video on October 8.
  4. Release date. Revelation launches April 8, 2027.

What’s left: April 8, 2027

Revelation launches on PlayStation 5, Nintendo Switch 2, Xbox Series X|S, Xbox on PC, Steam and the Epic Games Store on April 8, 2027, according to Square Enix’s release date trailer. It brings Cloud’s party up against Sephiroth and the Weapons in what Square Enix calls their “final battle.”

For voice actors, the trilogy is a rare thing. Game casts can change between entries, and remakes sometimes start over with new voices. Here, the English leads carried the same characters across three full games and seven years. That kind of continuity builds the attachment Christian was talking about, and it shows in the footage: these are people saying goodbye to a job and to each other.

Christian gets the last word in Square Enix’s video. “I just want to say goodbye,” he says, waving at the camera. “Thank you guys so much for joining our session, I hope you had as much fun as I did.” Then, after a pause: “Love you guys to death.”
