Dr. Eggman Voice Actor Chikao Otsuka Passes

Another veteran Japanese voiceover actor bids us farewell… Chikao Otsuka died of heart failure last 15th of January.  He was 85.

Chikao Otsuka was a 65-year veteran in the industry and was best known for his voiceover work for Sonic the Hedgehog as Doctor Eggman,  Goemon Ishikawa XIII in Lupin III and as Dr. Weil in Mega Man Zero.  Otsuka has an extensive voiceover work in television animation (Peter Pan no Bōken, Yu-Gi-Oh!, Les Misérables: Shōjo Cosette), OVA (Dragon Ball: Mystical Adventure, Little Nemo: Adventures in Slumberland), and video games (Final Fantasy, Kingdom Hearts, Metal Gear Solid, Tekken).

Otsuka was also the official voice dub of several English-speaking actors like, Charles Bronson, Richard Widmark, Jack Palance and Peter Sellers.

Otsuka is survived by his son Akio Ōtsuka who also works in the industry.  They have performed together in projects like Black Jack 21, Mobile Suit Gundam 0083 Stardust Memory, Full Metal Panic! series, and Metal Gear Solid 4: Guns of the Patriots.
