Disney has just released news of casting opportunity for their upcoming Disney movie Moana. Walt Disney Animation Studios has launched a worldwide search for a young talent who will voice the Polynesian Princess Moana for their animated feature film with the same name.
Contrary to earlier reports, the film will not star the Australian television singer and actress Naomi Sequeira, however casting directors has announced that they are seeking an actress who will voice the 14-18 year old character. They are looking for someone who is “smart, passionate, funny, brave, inquisitive, and confident.” They add that they seek someone who can portray “A teenager who yearns for something more,” and it is a must that the actress has a strong singing voice.
Moana is currently in pre-production and is directed by Academy award nominees Ron Clements and John Musker. Clements and Musker wrote the screenplay with another Academy award nominee, Taika Waititi. The animated comedy and musical film is described as a “mythic adventure set around 2000 years ago and across a series of islands in the South Pacific.” It follows the journey of a spirited teenager named Moana as she sails the Pacific Ocean to save the future of her people. Co-director Musker describes the character as “indomitable, passionate and a dreamer with a unique connection to the ocean itself. She’s the kind of character we all root for.” The directors, who also both directed the movies, Aladdin, The Little Mermaid and The Princess and the Frog are very excited about the movie, sharing that “(they) can’t wait to introduce her to audiences.”
The only confirmed cast member of the movie to date is American actor Dwayne Johnson. Johnson will be playing the Demi-God Maui… this he announced on his Twitter page last 3rd of December. It is said that his character will help Moana on her quest to find a fabled island in the Pacific. No further details has been shared.
